Building Bridges of Support – A large part of the role of the Chaplaincy is to bridge the gap between the street community and the community at large. This happens by developing relationships with local congregations and service providers – providing education, information, and referrals when appropriate.

of the Chaplaincy or inviting
the Chaplain to speak to your congregation.
Referrals – The Chaplain works closely with local service providers like CAM, Ritter Center, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Enterprise Resource Center, and Homeward Bound in order to provide referrals to needed services.
Congregational Involvement – Following the Wellness Gathering each Tuesday, we share a meal with a local congregation. To date, eight congregations are participating in these dinners (First Presbyterian, First Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist, Ba’hai’, First Unitarian, Nativity Lutheran, St. Raphael’s Catholic, Congregation Rodef Sholom). Participants in the Chaplaincy program also enjoy monthly visits to Green Gulch Farm Zen Center where we are given a walking tour of the gardens and temple and share a lunch with the community. We also visit Rodef Sholom on a monthly basis to share lunch with their fifth and sixth grade students and families.
Preaching and Educational Events – As an ordained minister, the Chaplain is available to speak about his work at congregations throughout the Bay Area. In addition to Sunday mornings as a guest preacher, the Chaplain can also serve as a consultant for congregations struggling with ways to address their service to people who are living outside in their communities. Providing Support for Staff of Service Organizations – The Chaplain is also a point of contact for overworked and often underpaid “front-line” staff at local service organizations. By hearing their frustrations and joys, the Chaplain provides a calming presence in which people may freely express themselves.
Many kind and wonderful people are working for the betterment of all who are in need. Below is a partial list of some of our closest allies.
